Study Lab - Earn A Passing Grade

Study Lab is a for credit class - where students have the opportunity to earn a pass (or fail) grade.  Students earn as many credits (2.5 per semester) as they would for any other academic class, such as English or Science.  Study Lab is not a class where students can just sit and do nothing.  As stated in an earlier blog entry, students must come prepared, must bring (and use) their agendas, and must work diligently throughout the period.  Lately, students have been wondering how I keep track of the points that I calculate for Study Lab.  In the beginning of the term, I handed out the classroom expectations for Study Lab - and in it, was the list of possibilities for earning points.  I've been reminding the students of this policies.  Students have the opportunity to earn 10 points per day - they must earn at least 6 points per day in order to pass for the term.

  • Arrive on Time - 2 points
  • Come prepared - 2 points
  • Work Diligently - 2 points
  • Keep an organized agenda - 2 points

Remember, just because students HAVE the agenda with them, does not earn them the points!  I have been very lenient with this until recently.  I have been looking in the agendas and making sure students are writing in their assignments.  Some students say to me "I don't use  my agenda."  This is unacceptable!  In order to stay organized, remember assignments, and set yourself up for success, an organized agenda must be kept.  Students need to realize that these organization skills will help them as academics become more challenging as well as prepare them for life outside of PSHS.

I will be after school this week on Monday and Thursday.  Please see me to make arrangements to stay after if you need extra help.

Have a great week!
